Group Classes

In our Group Classes you will not only learn how to create a vocabulary of cues for your dog, but how to prevent and resolve common nuisance behaviors. Training is all about motivation and we will be using food as our primary reward in class. As you progress through the program we will show you how to incorporate other types of rewards at home and in daily situations. Classes are held one night per week for one hour. You will continue each class for four sessions with the same class members.

Puppy Kindergarten

In the Puppy Kindergarten class owners will learn how to handle puppy behaviors such as:
  • Nipping
  • Chewing
  • Jumping
  • Handling and restraint

This program will also offer an introduction to basic obedience commands including:

  • Sit and down
  • Come
  • Loose leash walking
  • Wait
Students will learn how to socialize with other puppies, objects, and people.

Family Manners 1

Any student older than 16 weeks of age should enroll in Family Manners 1. Our classes are held in smaller groups (seven to eight students) to insure student’s success. Family Manners 1 will include the following skills:
  • Sit and down
  • Wait
  • Loose leash walking
  • Come when called
  • Stay
  • Leave it

Graduates will be reliable in low-distraction areas.

Family Manner 2

Students are required to complete a previous program before enrolling in Family Manners 2. This program is going to elevate each skill the student knows to become more reliable with higher distraction and in new environments. This class will also include skills that will be tested in the Canine Good Citizens program.

Canine Good Citizens

AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program is one of the most rapidly growing programs in the American Kennel Club. The CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. A full description of the CGC test can be found at http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/training_testing.cfm
