Group Training Class

Bark Tutor is a family focused dog training school that believes in using the most up-to-date, dog-friendly training methods in our program. Our progressive, train at your own pace levels format focuses on house manners and problem prevention along with basic obedience skills.

In our classes you will not only learn how to create a vocabulary of cues for your dog, but how to prevent and resolve common nuisance behaviors. Training is all about motivation and we will be using food as our primary reward in class. As you progress through the program we will show you how to incorporate “life rewards” into your training program at home.

We encourage owners to be proactive about rewarding their dog’s desirable behavior and to set their dog up for success. This does not mean that our training methods are permissive, rather, it places the responsibility on the owner to manage their dog’s environment so that the dog is not able to make mistakes while you work on training. We do believe that there is a time and place for the effective use of punishment, however, using punishment based training techniques inhibits your dogs learning process and owners should know how and when to use punishment effectively.

How does the levels format works?

The levels format is a progressive, go-at-your-own-pace training program where you advance as you and your dog learn appropriate skills. Each level builds on the previous, working on new behaviors, proofing old ones and adding more reliability.

New students will start in either the Puppy Kindergarten or Level 1 depending on your dog’s age. Owners can choose to purchase an eight class training pass that can be used over three months or a 16 class training pass that can be used over six months.

To insure plenty of individualized attention the group training class size is limited. Classes meet one time per week for 45 to 60 minutes. You are asked to choose a “home base” training night. This is the night that you regularly attend your current level. If you miss a class, you simply come back the following week and pick up where you left off. There is never going to be a situation where you “fall behind”.
